Description
Bioinformatics is an emerging field that integrates informational science. Bioinformatics utilizes computational
methods to create hypotheses and answer biological questions. Bioinformatics, often requires intensive exploration of
large and complex datasets from public and privately funded databases. Computational tools allow for the data-mining,
harvesting, organizing, and cleaning of datasets used to support hypothesis-driven biological solution. The course is
designed to introduce students to the field of bioinformatics through exploration of key principles, techniques and
technologies. Students will be exposed to relational databases and software such as the NCBI, MEGA, FigTree,
ClustalW, Pfam, IMG, Genbank, BioGPS, PDB and SwissProt. These technologies are designed to allow students
